My Sneaker Story: From Marshmallow Reds to GEL-NYC Grips

By Syamil

Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. Mine? Through sneakers. Each pair I own isn’t just a piece of footwear, it's a part of my identity, my mood, and my memory. Here's a deep dive into my current rotation and what makes each pair special to me.

🔴 Vans Marshmallow Red – My Laidback Canvas

This was my “always-ready, always-steady” sneaker. The Vans Marshmallow Red was the definition of simple drip. Lightweight canvas, clean shape, and that pop of red that never failed to stand out, without being loud.

Why I loved it:
Casual but eye-catching
Matched with most of my weekend fits
Gave that skater-boy energy even if I can’t ollie

Best styled with: Straight cut jeans, graphic tee, tote bag & chill vibes.

Nike Blazer Mid Stranger Things – The Retro Fire

Now this pair? It's a conversation starter. Inspired by the Stranger Things series, the Nike Blazer Mid feels like something pulled out from the '80s, lit on fire, and made modern. The detailing is insane, vintage textures, Stranger Things branding, and a shape that hugs your ankle just right.

Why it stands out:
Unique backstory
High-top with personality
People notice this, trust me

Best styled with: Black skinny jeans, varsity jacket, and retro shades.

Nike Dunk Low ‘Panda’ – The Universal Favourite

Everyone and their cat owns a pair of Dunks now, but the Panda Dunks still go hard. I wear this when I don’t know what to wear — and somehow it still elevates the fit. It’s the “white tee” of sneakers, classic, clean, and never off-trend.

Why it’s reliable:
Goes with literally anything
Easy to clean and maintain
Comfort + hype = win

Best styled with: Techwear pants, cargo shorts, or even track bottoms. Basically… anything.

Adidas Spezial Ice Blue – My Subtle Flex

This one hits different. The Adidas Spezial in Ice Blue is that soft-spoken drip. From the suede upper to the minimal detailing, it looks clean, premium, and timeless. Perfect for days I want to flex without being flashy.

Why I rate it:
That baby blue is chef’s kiss
Retro but fresh
You don’t see many people rocking it, rare vibes

Best styled with: Wide-leg chinos, tucked in tee, gold chain (optional, but effective).

ASICS GEL-NYC Oatmeal – My Chunky King

The GEL-NYC in Oatmeal is the future. It’s bulky, comfy, and built for walking all day. The oatmeal tones are subtle, but the silhouette gives off that runner-dad-meets-streetwear look. Honestly, it’s my most comfortable sneaker to date.

Why it’s a beast:
Support like no other
High-heat underrated design
Makes boring outfits look premium

Best styled with: Techwear, cargos, oversized tops, or minimalist street fits.
